Freye's OT game-winner sends Sailors past Grandville
MUSKEGON, Mich. – Ava Freye and her Muskegon Mona Shores didn’t mid working a little overtime Thursday, as her team walked off the pitch with a postseason victory.
Frye scored six minutes into the first overtime period and the Sailors, honorable mention in the Division 1 polls, slipped past visiting Grandville 1-0 in a Division 1 pre-district. Olivia Naylor drew the assist on the game-winner.
Mona Shores (12-4-3) outshot the Bulldogs 12-7 in the game. Abby Buikema earned her ninth shutout in net.
Mona Shores will face Grand Haven next Wednesday (May 28) at 7pm at Grandville for the district semifinals clash.
