UTICA, Mich. – Utica Eisenhower is now in the lead.
The Division 1 state-ranked Eagles tripped up Macomb Dakota 5-2 Monday in Macomb Area Conference Red Division play to move into the driver’s seat – for now.
Eisenhower (14-2-0 overall) improved to 7-2-0 for 21 points, while fellow state-ranked Romero (9-3-2) tied Utica Ford II (1-1) which dropped the Bulldogs’ league record to 6-1-2 for 20 points.
Eisenhower will host third-place Macomb L’Anse Creuse North on May 14, while Romeo will wrap up league play at home against New Baltimore Anchor Bay needing a win and an Eisenhower tie or loss in order to win the league title.
Ellera Jakubowski finished with a goal and an assist, giving the junior 40 career goals, and Devyn Redmond picked up the hat trick in the win over the Cougars (5-7-0, 3-6-0).
Lily Pantaleo added a goal and an assist, while Gabby Gojcaj and Julia Aniel drew single assists for the Eagles.
Eisenhower now has a 57-12 scoring edge this season and can sew up another league title with a win Wednesday.
ROMEO 1, UTICA FORD II 1: Romeo could only muster one goal and one point in this Macomb Area Conference-Red Division tie and dropped from the league lead. The Bulldogs are 9-3-2 overall and 6-1-2 in the league for 20 points. Utica Ford has not won a game in the league, but the sixth-place Falcons (2-10-3, 0-8-1) may have just played spoiler by earning the point against Division 1 state-ranked Romeo.
