YUBA CITY, Calif. – Yuba Football Club proved to have plenty of fight down the stretch Saturday..
Down 2-0 midway through the second half, the two-goal deficit was plenty of motivation for Luba FC and the extra effort helped them storm back and earn a 2-2 draw with visiting CF San Rafael in The League For Clubs play at Yuba City (Calif.) River Valley High School.
After San Rafael's Bryan Martin scored an unassisted goal in the 53rd minute to put his team up 2-0, Luba City FC staged its comeback.
In the 76th minute, Daniel Rodriguez-Navarro, recently subbed into the match, finally put his team on the board when he buried a flick in the box from Yousef Alenzi to trim the deficit down to 2-1.
Alenzi set up the game-tying goal in the 87th minute when he set up Luis Martinez for an opportunity and Martinez laced his perfectly-placed low shot off the right goalpost and into the back of the net to level the game at 2-2. It was Martinez’s team-leading third goal of the season.

“We again started to dominate and played the rest of the match in San Rafael’s half,” said Yuba FC coach Pete Afato. “In the 87th minute a ball over the top from (newcomer) Yousef Alenezi went to Luis Martinez. Luis took a touch in and a defender ran past him and then he took another touch in and then shot the ball into the bottom right corner kissing the post and in for the equalizer. He bent the ball perfectly.”
It was the foot of Martin that put CF San Rafael up 1-0 in the 17th minute when he scored his third goal of the season and would later score his fourth. His team could not withstand the constant pressure of Yuba City down the stretch.
Enrique Albor notched seven saves in nine chances for CF San Rafael. Valentin Ibarra-Luna had five saves in seven chances for Yuba FC.
“We went down 1-0 before the (end of the first) half. We had almost double the chances. We had hit the post twice and their keeper (Enrique Albor) had about 3-4 great saves. And they had one counter and boom goal for (Bryan Martin),” noted Afato. “After halftime we again dominated the procession and continued to create chances. Around the 57th minute mark they again countered and hit a ball over the top to (Marti) and our keeper came out and he shot it floating it in from about 25 yards out for his second goal."
