Kent City Eyes Repeat CSAA Title and Playoff Push
KENT CITY, Mich. — After a strong 2024 campaign, Kent City High School returns nearly its entire roster as the Eagles prepare for another run at the CSAA crown and a deeper push in the state playoffs.
Kent City finished 13-5-1 last fall, going 5-0-1 in league play to capture the outright CSAA championship before taking second in the conference tournament. Their season ended earlier than expected with a first-round district loss to Grand Rapids Catholic Central, but head coach staff believes a more favorable draw this year could set the stage for a longer postseason run.
The Eagles bring back 10 of 11 starters, including leading scorers David Copado-Perez and Marcus Arechiga, as well as standout goalkeeper Jesus Pozas-Servin, who tallied 10 shutouts in 2024. Defensively, senior center back Aaron Vanderwest anchors a back line that returns fully intact, while a young midfield group enters its second full season together.
Kent City loses just one senior from last year’s roster, forward Zuriel Vega, but the bulk of the team’s scoring and core leadership remain in place.
“Last year we proved we could compete at the top of our league, and this year our expectations are even higher,” the staff noted. “We know the schedule will be tougher, but our group is experienced, confident, and motivated to take the next step.”
With Big Rapids looming as the main challenger for the CSAA crown, Kent City’s goals are clear: finish above the .700 mark, contend for another league title, and build momentum for a deeper playoff run.
