GENOA, Ill. – After starting the season 2-2-0, Genoa-Kingston has really picked up the pace.
Really picked up the pace.
The Cogs captured their 15th straight win Monday after topping Mendota 3-0 in a non-conference game.
Genoa-Kingston was outscored 12-11 during its first four games when they won its first two games (5-4 and 3-1) but dropped its next two games (3-2 and 4-1).
The Cogs have not since that April 1 setback to Marengo (4-1).
The winning streak is no April fools joke. Now in the first week of May, the program has continued to knock down opponent after opponent. On Monday against the Trojans (14-6-1), Jadia Modesto scored the second and third goals for Genoa-Kingston. Ayva Hernandez scored the first goal and also drew an assist, while Sam Wendt also picked up two assists in the win.
Junior Madelynn Swanson picked up five saves for her eighth clean sheet of the campaign.
Genoa-Kingston is 17-2-0 overall and leads the Big Northern Conference at 7-0-0.
Despite the loss, Mendota has outscored the opposition 50-29 and sits at 3-1-0 in the Three Rivers Conference.
