NATIONAL SOCCER NEWS: www.nationalsoccernetwork.com

The first week of GCL2 games are in the books, although not everyone has seen action yet. Gulf Coast dominated Invictus, while newcomers Red River gave the defending champs a tough match, despite going down a player. Adrian Cardenas had the top performance of the week, with a hat trick in the GCU blowout.

This week brings a full slate of games, and will see some key match-ups in the early season. It's also noteworthy, and a little surprising, that there were no draws in week 1. Look for that to change this week.

Last Week’s Results:

Gulf Coast United 12-1 Invictus

Adrian Cardenas had a hat trick.

Twin Cities 1-3 Shreveport United

BRSC 4-0 LA Fire

Central LA 3-2 Red River

Sebastian Winn-Araneda received two yellow cards for Red River.

Southwest LA 2-5 LA Krewe

Luke Brown and Robert Calidonio both scored a brace for Krewe.

This Week’s Games:

Mississippi Blues vs Gulf Coast United; Friday, May 22 at 5:00.

This should be the marquee match of the weekend. GCU has dropped down from TLfC and will be hoping to build on last week's dominant performance. The Blues could be primed to catch them off guard, and this could easily go down as three points for the home side.

Twin Cities vs Red River; Friday, May 22 at 7:15.

Red River's strong opening performance would lead me to consider them a slight favorite in this one. Twin Cities will hope the home crowd can put them over the top.

LA Fire vs LA Krewe; Saturday, May 23 at 7:15.

Krewe will be favored here, and the Phoenix will be looking for their first goal of the season to try to turn things around from week 1.

Southwest LA vs BRSC; Saturday, May 23 at 7:15.

The Capitals were dominant in their first match, and they will be favored again in this one. BRSC also had the only clean sheet in week 1, but that will probably change here.

Central LA vs Shreveport United; Saturday, May 23 at 7:15.

These two teams tend to play each other tight, and I don't expect that to change this week. Feels like the first draw of the season.

Invictus vs Hattiesburg; Saturday, May 23 at 7:15.

Hattiesburg will be a heavy favorite in this one, as Invictus will look to improve from their week 1 outing. Look for a tighter score than their first game, but a comfortable win for Hattiesburg.
