Birmingham Legion:

Last Week’s Match - Birmingham Legion 2-2 Indy Eleven. Birmingham scored first on a Tyler Pasher PK after Romario Williams was taken down in the box, and led 1-0 at halftime. Indy played their style, with only 30% possession for the match, and scored two second half goals to take the lead. Both goals came from crosses into the Birmingham box that weren't properly marked, which has been an ongoing problem. Legion were able to make a hard push and Sam McIllhatton scored the equalizer in the 89th minute. For the majority of the game, Birmingham was the better side, and had other chances that they just couldn't quite put away. This should have been a win for Birmingham, but it was also encouraging to see them fight to the end.

This Week’s Match - Birmingham Legion at San Antonio (USL Cup match); Saturday, April 25 at 7:30 CT.

San Antonio has had a good start to the season, but has also had some ups and downs, including a four game winless and scoreless streak. Last week's game saw them shake off whatever has been ailing them as they beat El Paso 3-2 on the road. Head-to-head, Birmingham's best results against San Antonio were the two most recent - a 0-0 draw last year, and a 3-0 win in 2024. San Antonio has two former Legion players on the roster, center backs Alex Crognale and Tiago Suarez, and Legion has had a history of being hurt by former players. One fear is San Antonio's height advantage coming into play on set pieces, but there will also be some unknowns as both teams are likely to do some roster rotation. Historically, Legion has put their GK2 between the pipes, and I'm expecting Trevor McMullen to get the minutes here. This should also be a good opportunity to rest a couple of players (hopefully Hamouda and Diarbian), while getting some minutes for players like Saucedo and Duru. Legion has great speed throughout the roster, and look for that to be the difference here.

Huntsville City FC:

Last Week’s Match - Huntsville City FC 4-2 Inter Miami II

Huntsville came into Saturday’s match off of a draw at home against Chicago, looking for their second win of the season. The first win came from the opening game at Orlando, and another trip to Florida brought them another win. Huntsville took the lead early, and was ahead 2-1 at the hallf. Two more goals in the second half had them on their way to a relatively comfortable win. Miami has yet to win a game this season, and has allowed 18 goals in just 7 games. Huntsville's next match will be on the road to Chattanooga FC on May 2.

UPSL Premier:

Last Week’s Results - FC Birmingham 2-4 Scenic City FC. Tavar Lawrence had a brace for the Falcons and Jack Conrad had a brace for Scenic City.

FC Columbus Elite 1-0 UMA FC

This Week’s Matches - FC Birmingham vs Atlanta Fire; Saturday, April 25 at 6:00 CT.

FC Columbus Elite at Angelus; Saturday, April 25 at 6:30 ET. Angelus was a very strong team during last year's inaugural season. So far this year, they've had wildly mixed results, highlighted by last week's 4-0 win over a very good Lawrenceville team. Elite has stumbled a bit over the past couple of games, and have been missing their top scorer, Jackson Wrobel. Probably too much depends on Wrobel's availability. If he plays, Colgaelite likely wins; if not, Angelus has the ability to drop a big number and take the three points.

UMA FC vs Georgia Revolution; Sunday, April 26 at 3:00 CT. The Revs lost their opening game against Colgaelite, and then won their next three games. UMA is capable of stopping that run, but make no mistake - they're definitely a heavy underdog. Getting a point at home would be a steal.

UPSL Division 1:

Last Week’s Results - Colgaelite 2 1-7 Lake Country United

This Week’s Matches - FC Columbus Elite 2 at Middle Georgia United; Saturday, April 25 at 6:00 ET. Middle Georgia comes into this one after an upset victory over AFA Academy last week. Expect to ride that momentum to a close win at home over Elite.

Columbus Knight Eagles vs Albion Atlanta U23; Saturday, April 25 at 3:00 CT. Both of these teams have been pretty inconsistent this season, and they haven't had any common opponents yet. The Eagles probably have the better quality results, especially after their recent win over Colgaelite. They should be favored at home.

Calera FC is off this week.
