Birmingham Legion:

Last Week’s Game -

Birmingham Legion played San Antonio to a 0-0 draw in regulation of their opening USL Cup match, and then lost the shootout 1-3. San Antonio controlled large portions of the match and had a couple of great chances, but Legion GK Jassem Koleilat came up big with amazing saves to frustrate the home side. Birmingham made two key substitutions at halftime that provided a spark, and led to their best chances of the night. When it was all said and done, regular time ended in a 0-0 draw, which triggered the shootout for an extra point. The shooters for Birmingham didn't have much success, as the San Antonio keeper stopped one, one was fired over the bar, and another hit the post. The clean sheet was Birmingham's third of the season, which is already an improvement over the two in 2025.

This Week’s Game - Birmingham Legion at Rhode Island FC; Saturday, May 2 at 7:30 ET.

Legion will be back in league action this week, on the road to Rhode Island. In just two years of existence, Rhode Island has racked up four wins over Birmingham, and there's been one draw between them. Rhode Island closed out a busy April schedule that saw them play six games, winning three of those, and drawing the others - including a 1-1 Open Cup performance against New England Revolution (RI lost that shootout). Their most recent league game was a 4-0 dismantling of Charleston before a draw in the USL Cup against Hartford (RI won that shootout). Make no mistake, this is a rrivalry game, and emotions will run high. Birmingham has been getting an increasingly healthy roster, and they'll need to be at their best. Expect a low-scoring game, as both teams feature excellent goalkeepers that find a way to get their teammates out of trouble.

Huntsville City FC:

This Week’s Game - Huntsville City FC at Chattanooga FC; Saturday, May 2 at 7:00 ET.

Huntsville was off last week, but jumps back into action this week against their closest rival, Chattanooga FC. These two teams faced each other on March 21st in a game that ended in a 2-2 draw, with Huntsville taking the point from the ensuing shootout. Between the two of them Chattanooga has built more momentum in recent games, and put together strong performance in their last game, a 0-1 loss at Crown Legacy (the top team in the East). Finley Stadium is a tough place to get a result, but it's also familiar territory for Huntsville. This feels very much like another draw.

UPSL Premier:

Last Week’s Results -

FC Birmingham's game against Atlanta Fire didn't happen. FCB definitely posted that it was a forfeit that would hit the standings as a 4-0 win. But the UPSL site lists the game as postponed.

FC Columbus Elite 2-0 Angelus

UMA FC 2-2 Georgia Revolution

This Week’s Matches -

FC Birmingham is off this week.

FC Columbus Elite vs UFA Lawrenceville; Saturday, May 2 at 6:00 ET.

Both of these teams have been somewhat inconsistent this season, although Colgaelite is currently at the top of the table, while UFA is in sixth place. Elite should be the favorite here, but Lawrenceville is capable of coming in a decisively taking three points.

UMA FC at Augusta Arsenal; Sunday, May 3 at 5:00 ET.

Arsenal started the season on the wrong end of things, but have won their last two in a row. UMA has yet to win a game, but have soild outside of their hard loss to Lawrenceville. This one should be close, and UMA may come back with all three points in this one.

UPSL Division 1:

Last Week’s Results -

FC Columbus Elite 2 2-6 Middle Georgia - James Skelton had a hat trick for Middle Georgia in the 6-2 win.

Columbus Knight Eagles 1-6 Albion Atlanta U23 - Eli Bannister scored four goals for Albion.

This Week’s Matches -

FC Columbus Elite vs Calera FC; Saturday, May 2 at 3:00 ET.

This match-up between two Lower Alabama teams will be Calera's first action since April 11. Colgaelite has stumbled to three losses in a row after winning their first two. Calera will be looking at this as a chance to pull off the upset to get their first win.

Columbus Knight Eagles at Augusta Soccer Team; Saturday, May 2 at 3:00 ET.

On a neutral site, with equal drive time to the venue, I would give CKE a slight edge in this one, despite their inconsistentcy. But the almost four hour drive across the state will probably be a factor, and I expect Augusta to get the win at home.
