Guarding the Net, Leading the Way: Calum Ewing’s Senior Spotlight
Calum Ewing has been a cornerstone of the Northgate High School soccer program, serving as the Varsity goalkeeper for all four years of his high school career. A calm and commanding presence between the posts, Ewing’s consistency, leadership, and work ethic have set the standard for Viking soccer.
On the field, Calum’s accolades speak for themselves. He earned GHSA 2nd Team All-Region honors in 2025 and is a two-time Viking Award recipient, an honor voted on by his teammates recognizing outstanding character and leadership. His success isn’t limited to high school play—Calum has also competed at a high level with AFC Lightning in MLS NEXT 2, continuing to sharpen his skills against elite competition. Off the field, Calum is just as impressive. He is an Eagle Scout, a member of the National Honor Society, an AP Scholar, and a Junior Marshal, placing him in the top 5% of his graduating class. He also earned the Georgia Certificate of Merit, awarded to students in the top 10% statewide by the University of Georgia and the Georgia Department of Education. Calum graduates 10th out of 467 students, maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA.
After graduation, Calum plans to pursue a degree in journalism with a concentration in sport, with intentions to attend either the University of Alabama or the University of Georgia. He also plans to continue his soccer career at the club level and has aspirations to begin a semi-professional career in the sport he loves.
“We are so proud of all Calum has accomplished in his soccer career. He has played since he was three in multiple positions and then specialized as a goalie in high school. He has played club on MLS Next and on Varsity all four years in high school. Calum has a strong work ethic and is always determined to give his best effort for the team. He has been awarded the Viking Award the past two years. This award is voted on by his teammates for the person who best exemplifies the team and is a leader on and off the field.
