CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — AJ Mayock is no stranger to high-level soccer in Champaign, where she stars for the University of Illinois. On this occasion, she shined for Peoria City.
And it didn’t take long.
In just the third minute, Mayock scored her first goal of the night, assisted by Emily Murphy (Green Bay), to set the tone and visiting Peoria City went on to claim a 3-1 WPSL Midwest Conference victory over Junction FC at Tommy Stewart Field.
Three minutes later, she doubled her tally with a powerful one-timer, this time assisted by Rylann Law (Illinois State).
Roughly 20 minutes later, Mayock drove into Junction’s territory and ripped a shot on goal. The keeper made the initial stop, but Mayock was relentless — slipping past the defense and converting the rebound to complete her hat trick.
Junction FC scored off a set piece later in the half on a strike by Carline Sheehan, but Peoria City went into the break leading 3-1.
That would also be the final score, as neither team found the back of the net in the second half.
Mayock was named Woman of the Match after her standout performance, notching all three goals for Peoria.
Peoria City improved to 4-2-0 overall in the Midwest Conference-Lake Michigan Division with a 14-5 scoring edge this season. The Carp are in second place in the division.
