Women’s Top 25: Stanford, Tennessee Lead Perfect Starts; Oklahoma Cracks Rankings

The NCAA women’s soccer landscape continues to tighten after another week of unbeaten runs and fresh contenders climbing into the mix.

On the women’s side, Stanford remained at No. 1 and strengthened its grip, jumping from three to six first-place votes after a perfect 5-0-0 start. Tennessee stayed close behind at No. 2, also unbeaten, while Duke, TCU, and Notre Dame rounded out the top five.

Virginia made one of the biggest leaps, climbing from T-13 to No. 8, while South Carolina moved into the Top 10 at No. 10 after a 5-0-1 start. Arkansas (No. 8 → No. 13) and UCLA (No. 23 → No. 18) were among the week’s notable fallers.

New to the rankings were Ohio State (T-20), Kansas (No. 22), and Xavier (No. 24). Meanwhile, Michigan State, Mississippi State, and Wisconsin dropped out after brief stays in the poll.

Southern California and Florida State followed in the middle of the top 10, with Penn State also holding firm at No. 9. South Carolina’s early run has the Gamecocks firmly in contention, while BYU (3-0-1) and Iowa (3-1-1) solidified themselves just outside the top group.

Memphis surged to 5-0-0 and landed at No. 14, with Georgia (4-1-1) and Georgetown (2-0-2) close behind. Wake Forest (4-1-0) kept its spot in the teens, while UCLA’s uneven 2-2-0 start didn’t prevent them from climbing to No. 18.

Oklahoma made the week’s biggest splash. At 6-0-0, the Sooners entered at No. 19, underscoring their early-season momentum. Virginia Tech (4-1-1), Ohio State (2-1-1), and Kansas (4-0-2) added depth to the competitive field.

Traditional power North Carolina sat at No. 23 with a 4-2-0 record, joined at the back end by Xavier (3-2-0) and Vanderbilt (4-1-0).

With multiple unbeatens still in play and newcomers pressing into the Top 25, the women’s race looks wide open heading deeper into September.
