DES MOINES, Iowa – Upsets are sweet.

Even better when they come in a postseason atmosphere.

And Easton Bogard picked the right time to net a hat trick.

It was his three-goal performance that helped his Sueno FC side upset third-ranked and host Des Moines Mance 4-2 Friday night at Valley Stadium in the USL League Two Central Conference Quarterfinals.

Sueno FC finished second to Minneapolis City SC in the Heartland Division by virtue of head-to-head competition after tying Minneapolis in numerous categories and now they have advanced to the Round of 16 after posting one of the biggest upsets of the tournament.

Sueno FC allowed 20 goals in the regular season – more than any other team in the USL LEague Two field of 32 teams. Sueno did allow two goals Friday, but picked up a superhuman performance by Bogart to slip past Great Plains Division champion Des Moines Menace, which was ranked in the top 10 nearly all season and even spent a week in June ranked No. 1 in the USL League Two Power Rankings.

It did not matter.

Sueno FC never trailed Des Moines on Friday and at one time led 4-1 in the second half.

Bogart scored in the 18th minute to stake Sueno FC to a 1-0 lead.

Des Moines Mance tied the game at 1-1 in the 26th minute when leading goal scorer Domenick Bachstein put one into the back of the net.

Bogart scored in the 45th minute to give his team a lead at the half (2-1) and later added a 57th minute tally which later proved to be the game-winner. Michael Nesci scored in the 63rd minute to open up the three-goal cushion and the 4-1 advantage.

By the time Bachstein scored his second goal of the game, the Menace simply stalled out and could not complete the comeback bid and suffered an early and unexpected exit.

Sueno FC now owns a 9-2-2 record and a 37-22 scoring edge as it will face Minneapolis City SC Sunday night in Des Moines in the Central Conference Semifinals clash.

Dex Moines Menace exits the tournament after outsourcing its opposition 45-19 and recording a 10-2-1 record. The club had won two national championships in 2005 and 2021 but came up way short this time around.
