SEASIDE, California (Friday, February 13, 2026) – Monterey Bay FC has officially signed defender Zackery Farnsworth to a multi-year contract ahead of the 2026 season, pending league and federation approval.
Farnsworth, a 23-year-old center back and former MLS Homegrown player, brings experience, composure, and leadership to Monterey Bay’s back line. The left-footed defender adds depth and quality to the club’s defensive unit as the Crisp-and-Kelp prepare for the upcoming campaign.
“All praise to God, what a blessing and it’s truly an excitement to be at a club like Monterey Bay FC,” said Farnsworth. “Now it’s time to win and establish a championship tradition here at the 831.”
Farnsworth began his professional career in the Real Salt Lake Academy, developing through one of Major League Soccer’s respected youth systems. In June 2021, he signed a Homegrown contract with Real Salt Lake, becoming the 27th Homegrown player in club history.
During his time with Real Salt Lake’s affiliate, the Real Monarchs, Farnsworth gained valuable experience in both the USL Championship and MLS NEXT Pro. Known for his ability to read the game, distribute effectively from the back, and defend confidently in one-on-one situations, he became a steady presence along the back line.
In the 2024 season, Farnsworth made 26 appearances and completed nearly 93 percent of his passes, helping his side maintain possession from deep positions. This past season, he appeared in 19 matches across all competitions, recording one assist in 1,543 minutes of action.
“Signing a Homegrown deal in MLS is a big moment for any young player, and it speaks volumes about the level he’s been at and the belief clubs have shown in Zack,” said Monterey Bay FC Head Coach Jordan Stewart. “Since his arrival, he has shown leadership qualities through his communication, trainings, and holds himself and others to a high standard. That quality is going to be a big help for us this season.”
A native of Cedar Hills, Utah, Farnsworth stands 6-foot-1 and has demonstrated versatility across the back line, pairing physical strength with strong tactical awareness. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
