The Charleston Battery signed forward Colton Swan to a multi-year contract this past offseason, and this newcomer to the Lowcountry has already provided some key goals for the Battery in the early days of the 2026 season. A brace versus the Florida Badgers in the US Open Cup first round and then a goal versus Birmingham Legion in USL Championship action has found Swan on the scoresheet and quickly becoming a fan favorite around the Point in Mount Pleasant.
“I saw the ball go in twice, which is my job, and I’m just incredibly grateful to score in front of the home crowd,” said Swan after his US Open Cup brace. “It took a long preseason and a grind to get here…we didn’t want OT and I’m just glad that game is over. We just want to win, I think all of us are obsessed with winning and that what gets us to this level and onto bigger and better things.”
When asked about both of his US Open Cup goals coming off headers, Swan said “that’s stuff we work on, functional work every day in and out. Especially me being a No. 9 in and around the six yard box, that’s got to be your superpower, that’s got to be what your best at. But repetition I would say, me and my pops growing up, really focused on using my head, I think that’s a lost skill in the game now, don’t be too fancy just put it in with your head and score.”
Swan joined the Battery after a successful season at the University of Indiana where he was named to the 2025 Big Ten All-Freshman team after scoring 3 goals and 3 assists across 19 matches for the Hoosiers. Prior to playing at Indiana, the 18-year-old Swan played with the Colorado Rapids Academy and appeared with the MLS NEXT Pro Rapids 2 side in 28 matches in 2024 and 2025.
“The fans, environment and winning culture drew me to Charleston,” said Swan upon his Battery signing. “The past success of the Battery and Head Coach Ben Pirmann definitely excited me, but I am more focused on the next successes of this group. I am willing to do whatever is asked of me to help this group achieve our goals.”
Internationally, Swan has been part of the US U-18 national team playing in the UEFA Friendship Cup in 2025 and was recently added to the U-20 national team for a tour of Argentina in the March international window. Swan will face the U-20 Argentina national team as well as Club Athletico Independiente on the upcoming tour meaning he will miss the trip to Detroit City and the US Open Cup match at the Charlotte Independence to close out the month of March.
The next home match for the home fans to see Swan with the Battery will be versus the Tampa Bay Rowdies on April 18.
