USL Championship | March 7, 2026 | Jacksonville, FL

Hartford Athletic wasted no time making a statement to begin the 2026 USL Championship season.

The Boys in Green opened the campaign with an impressive 3-0 road victory over Sporting Club Jacksonville, spoiling the expansion club’s inaugural match in front of their home crowd. Hartford looked sharp from the opening whistle and delivered a dominant performance reminiscent of the reigning USL Jägermeister Cup champions.

Hartford struck first when Augi Williams, the USL Championship’s leading active goal scorer, found the back of the net for his first goal of the 2026 season. The early strike set the tone for the visitors and added another tally to Williams’ already impressive career total.

The lead doubled later in the match thanks to Samuel Careaga, who finished off a brilliant setup from Meechie Ngalina. The perfectly timed assist created one of the standout moments of the match and gave Hartford full control.

Hartford sealed the victory in the 90th minute when Adewale Obalola scored the third goal of the night, putting the finishing touch on a clinical road performance.

The shutout victory to open the season highlights the strong defensive identity Hartford has developed under head coach Brendan Burke. With three points secured on opening night, the Boys in Green now turn their attention to another road test when they travel to face Birmingham on March 11.

Hartford begins the 2026 season with momentum and an early statement that they intend to remain one of the league’s top contenders.
