USL CHAMPIONSHIP: Charleston Battery’s Jennings, Torres, Pirmann all earn Team of the Week honors

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The USL Championship announced Tuesday that Charleston Battery players Cal Jennings and Juan David Torres and Head Coach Ben Pirmann were named to the league’s Week 12 Team of the Week. The attacking duo earned the honors after dazzling in Saturday’s 1-3 road win over Detroit City FC.
Coach Pirmann takes home his second Coach of the Week honor of the season after the Battery extended their winning streak in the league to seven games. The boss’s game plan worked to near perfection as the club recorded their fifth consecutive Championship game scoring at least three goals, snapping Detroit’s nine-game home undefeated run.
Jennings continued his scorching hot streak by bagging a brace in the first half, his second consecutive two-goal game. Jennings’ first goal was critical, as it came in the 5th minute to stop Detroit’s early momentum and swing the game into the Battery’s favor. He was on the other end of a sublime Torres cross to head home the equalizer. His second goal came right before halftime, capping off a team effort that built out from the back to put the Battery up 2-1.
Torres had a hand in all three goals while being credited with one goal and one assist. He assisted Jennings with a cross from near the touchline that was placed perfectly into the box and between defenders. He then set up MD Myers to assist Jennings’ second tally. Out of halftime, Torres delivered a sensational strike from the top of the box to add to the Battery’s lead and further distance themselves from Detroit for the win.
The Team of the Week selections bring the club’s season total to 14.
Charleston’s next match will be at home against Greenville Triumph SC on Sat., May 31, in the USL Jӓgermeister Cup. Tickets for the game are on sale now via SeatGeek.com, the club’s exclusive digital ticketing provider.
