South Carolina United Heat defeats Electric City 3-0 - Tom Marriott Brace Keeps the Heat at the Top of the Table
It was a cool, rainy, Spring afternoon match in Anderson, South Carolina as the visiting South Carolina United Heat defeated Electric City 3-0 in UPSL Premier Mid-Atlantic South action. Heat forward Tom Marriott netted a brace to help lift the Heat over Electric and keep his side undefeated (7W-0L-0T) at the top of the USPL conference table. Marriott now has 13 goals on the season which puts him third in the nation in UPSL Premier scoring, just two goals out of the top spot.
As the spring showers welcomed both teams to the pitch, the Heat were the more aggressive team in attack over the first 15 minutes and all this pressure led to the Heat’s opening goal in the 16th minute. A quick Alex Lopez pass from the midfield was slipped to the streaking Marriott who was making a clever back-shoulder run to perfectly time his run with the pass to put the Heat’s leading scorer in 1v1 for the clinical finish and the 1-0 advantage. The Heat had other looks at the goal with no other tallies while Electric City could only threaten via counter attacks and free kick opportunities over the remaining minutes of the first half. A timely 1v1 save from Andreas Kokoska in the Heat net kept the score 1-0 at the half.
The second half opened just like the first half and Marriott again was slipped another ball by Lopez on a perfectly timed run in the 52nd minute to put him in 1v1 for his second goal of the afternoon. Electric made every effort to climb back into the game but had the game put out of reach in the 78th minute as substitute Taha Houssni collected a cross misplayed by the Electric defense to smash the ball into the net for the 3-0 lead. The visitors closed out the final minutes of the match and took all 3 points back to Columbia.
“Alex (Lopez) is always good to play behind, I link with him, I know where he is going to go, he knows where I am going to go, the chemistry is there and it helps a lot,” said Heat forward Tom Marriott about his brace. “This season is looking good, we’re in a good position, 7-0…haven’t lost a game and right now no one can really stop us.”
The Heat returns to the pitch as they host Combine Academy on May 3 at 6:00pm.
