Soccer News from South Carolina
Heat Remains Undefeated with 1-0 win at the SC Surf:
It was another match and another shutout win for the South Carolina United Heat last Sunday in the Lowcountry. Benjamin Martinez scored the lone goal of the match as the Heat stay top of the UPSL Mid-Atlantic South table with a perfect 5W-0L-0T record. The Heat have kept their perfect mark scoring 19 goals allowing just 4 goals against. The Heat will host 10th place Asheville FC on April 18 at 6 PM. The Surf now sit in 4th place (3W-1L-0T) in the conference and travels to Pre-College DA on April 18 for a 6 PM kickoff.
Soda City wins 5-0 over Combine Academy:
Soda City continued to pile up the goals as they blanked Combine Academy 5-0 on the road in North Carolina last weekend. Soda has now scored 20 goals this season allowing just 5 goals against as they sit in second place in the conference. Soda (3W-0L-2T) will host 3rd place Mint Hill Sunday, April 19 at 5 PM.
Battery End Road Trip with Loss at Brooklyn FC:
The Charleston Battery dropped a 0-3 decision on their first trip to Brooklyn FC last weekend. The Battery just couldn’t find the nets and never got into the match played in the odd setting of the Coney Island Boardwalk baseball stadium. The Battery return after their lengthy road trip to the Point this Saturday afternoon for a 3 PM kickoff versus the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
Liberty Names Minihan as next Head Coach:
The Greenville Liberty have named Abby Minihan as their next head coach. The Liberty are not fielding a USL W-League team this season and will be focusing on their women’s U-20 Academy team for the summer campaign. The construction of the new GE Vernova Park as well as the leadership changes in Greenville will position the Liberty well to return to the W-League or even make the jump to the USL Super League in future seasons. Minihan coaches withing the CESA youth club and has extensive college head coaching experience with USC-Upstate, Anderson University, and Pittsburgh-Bradford. The season begins in June and the Liberty will host the NC Courage, Carolina Ascent, and SC United Bantams while going on the road to play Wake FC, the Charlotte Eagles, and Fox Soccer Academy during the 2026 summer campaign.
