Shawn Burke Joins Inside the Game Episode #165
(Shelby Township, MI) – Inside the Game continues its run of marquee guests as University at Buffalo women’s soccer head coach Shawn Burke joins Episode #165 tomorrow.
Burke, now in his 12th season at the helm of the Bulls, has built Buffalo into one of the MAC’s premier programs. A two-time MAC Coach of the Year, Burke became the program’s all-time winningest coach earlier this fall with a 3-0 victory over Canisius, moving past 113 career wins. His overall record of 113-57-38 includes a dominant 69-15-14 home mark at UB Stadium, a testament to the fortress he has created in Western New York.
Under his leadership, UB has collected 53 All-MAC selections, 26 All-Region honors, and produced the program’s first four Division I All-Americans. Seven of his players have been named MAC Player of the Year, highlighting the individual development that has become a hallmark of his tenure.
Academics have matched athletics during Burke’s time at Buffalo. His squads have earned 103 All-MAC
cademic selections, four Academic All-Americans, and 12 straight United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Awards, cementing UB as one of the nation’s most balanced programs.
On the field, Burke’s resume includes multiple MAC titles and two NCAA Tournament appearances, highlighted by the Bulls’ historic 2022 campaign when they went unbeaten in conference play and rattled off a program-record 17-game unbeaten streak. That season, UB also recorded 14 shutouts, tying a program best.
In 2024, Burke once again guided Buffalo to the MAC Championship match, while ranking among the top 20 nationally in goals-against average and shutout percentage. His teams have consistently been among the toughest in the league to break down, and his reputation as one of the country’s sharpest defensive minds continues to grow.
Before leading the Bulls, Burke was a standout at Mercyhurst College, where he won five straight GLIAC titles and helped the Lakers to their first Final Four appearance. He has carried that winning pedigree into coaching, becoming one of the most respected names in the college game.
Burke joins host Jonathan Turner on Inside the Game to discuss his coaching journey, Buffalo’s continued rise, and the future of women’s soccer across the Mid-American Conference and beyond.
Inside the Game Episode #165 airs tomorrow on National Soccer Network platforms.
