SEATTLE, Wash. — The Utah Royals FC (3-2-1, 10 points) delivered a historic performance on Sunday night, dismantling Seattle Reign FC 3-0 at Lumen Field. The victory was a landmark moment for the franchise, representing the largest away win in club history and vaulting the Royals into third place in the NWSL standings—the highest position the club has reached since 2019.

Head Coach Jimmy Coenraets saw his tactical adjustments pay immediate dividends, as several key players returning from injury fueled a first-half offensive explosion that Seattle simply could not contain.

A Record-Setting Opening Act

The Royals wasted no time rewriting the history books, scoring twice before many fans had even settled into their seats.

  • The 50-Second Strike: Capitalizing on a misplayed back pass by the Seattle defense, Japanese forward Mina Tanaka intercepted the ball and fed captain Paige Cronin. Cronin clinicaly blasted a strike home to give Utah a 1-0 lead. At just 50 seconds, it was the fastest goal in club history and the 14th-fastest in NWSL history.

  • The 7th-Minute Double: Midfielder Narumi Miura, making her club debut, curled a stunning first-time strike into the top-right corner from the edge of the box. The goal gave Utah a 2-0 lead, marking the fastest two-goal advantage in Royals history and the first time Seattle has ever conceded twice in the opening ten minutes of a match.

The onslaught continued in first-half stoppage time when Ana Tejada found Cloé Lacasse making a clinical run into the box. Lacasse fired a "rocket" past the Seattle keeper to make it 3-0 before the break.

Defensive Resilience and Clean Sheet

While the offense grabbed the headlines, goalkeeper Mia Justus was instrumental in preserving the lead. Justus recorded three massive saves, including a 71st-minute fingertip stop that deflected a powerful strike off the crossbar.

However, Justus appeared to suffer a slight injury on the play and was replaced in the 82nd minute by Mandy McGlynn, who made her 2026 season debut. The combined effort ensured Utah’s first road victory over Seattle since 2019 and maintained the Royals' perfect 16-0-1 all-time record when leading by two or more goals.
