SANDY, Utah — Utah Royals FC are set to open their 2026 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) regular season this Saturday, March 14, as they travel to face the Kansas City Current. The match, scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. MT kickoff at CPKC Stadium, marks the beginning of a highly anticipated sophomore season for the revived Utah franchise.

Coming off a 2025 season defined by growth and the integration of young talent, the Royals enter 2026 with a reinforced roster and high expectations. The club will look to its established core, led by forward Ally Sentnor and midfielder Amandine Henry, to set the tone against a Kansas City side that enters the season as one of the favorites to contend for the NWSL Shield.

"The opening match of the season is always a measuring stick," Royals team officials noted. "Playing in an environment like CPKC Stadium provides an immediate challenge, but our group has had a fantastic preseason. We are focused on implementing our identity from the first whistle and showing the evolution of this team."

The tactical matchup features a clash of styles. Utah has spent the preseason refining a possession-oriented approach, utilizing the technical ability of newly acquired veteran leadership to complement the explosive speed of their young attacking corps. Maintaining defensive discipline will be paramount, as the Current’s offense—anchored by 2025 standouts—is known for its high-pressing, vertical transition play.

Key to Utah’s success will be the performance of the backline, which saw significant investment over the winter. The Royals' defensive unit will be tasked with neutralizing Kansas City’s potent front three, a task that requires 90 minutes of unwavering concentration. Offensively, the Royals hope to capitalize on set-piece opportunities and the creative playmaking of Sentnor, who is coming off a breakout year.

Saturday’s match also serves as a reunion for several players who have crossed paths in the league’s shifting landscape. The familiarity between the coaching staffs suggests a strategic chess match, with both sides looking to exploit early-season chemistry gaps.

Following the road opener, Utah will return to the Wasatch Front for their 2026 home opener at America First Field. The club reported strong season ticket sales throughout the offseason, signaling a continued appetite for professional women's soccer in the Salt Lake market.

"We feel the energy from our fans even when we're on the road," said the Royals technical staff. "Starting the season with a strong performance in Kansas City is the first step toward our goal of making a deep playoff run this year. We’re ready to get to work."

The match will be broadcast nationally, giving fans across the country a first look at the new-look Royals. For Utah, a result on Saturday would provide critical momentum as they navigate a dense March schedule that includes matchups against several of the league's perennial powerhouses.
