COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — Despite a stellar defensive stand and an early lead, Colorado Rapids 2 (0-4-2, 2 pts) fell 2-1 to Minnesota United FC 2 (3-3-0, 9 pts) on Sunday night. A second-half red card proved to be the undoing for the home side, as Minnesota capitalized on the man advantage to score two quick goals late in the match.

The loss leaves Colorado still searching for their first victory of the 2026 campaign, though individual performances from the club's youngest prospects provided a glimmer of optimism.

Copeland Strikes First

Colorado opened the match with aggressive intent, as Bryce Jamison and Alex Harris targeted the air with early crosses. The pressure eventually shattered the Minnesota defense in the final minutes of the first half.

The breakthrough was orchestrated by 15-year-old Nathan Tchoumba, who delivered a clinical pass to Josh Copeland. Copeland displayed elite footwork on the sideline, faking out two Minnesota defenders before cutting inside and unleashing a long-range blast across the box into the back of the net. The goal marked Copeland’s second in as many games and the first professional assist for the teenage Tchoumba.

Red Card Shifts the Tide

The momentum swung violently in favor of the visitors in the 50th minute when Alex Harris was shown a straight red card. Reduced to ten men, the Rapids 2 backline was forced into a desperate defensive shell.

Goalkeeper Zackory Campagnolo turned in a heroic performance to keep the lead intact, including a spectacular flying save in the 58th minute to tip a goal-bound shot over the crossbar. However, the relentless pressure from the MNUFC2 offense finally broke through in the closing stages.

The Caldeira Brace

Minnesota captain Marcus Caldeira took over in the final quarter of an hour:

  • 76th Minute: Caldeira found the equalizer, beating the Colorado defense to level the score at 1-1.

  • 78th Minute: Just two minutes later, Caldeira struck again, netting the go-ahead goal to stun the home crowd.

Colorado fought to create an equalizer in the dying minutes, but the numerical disadvantage proved too much to overcome.
