FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — New England Revolution II has officially announced the signing of Japanese forward/winger Shuma Sasaki to an MLS NEXT Pro professional contract. The deal runs through the 2026 season and includes a club option for 2027, pending the receipt of his P-1 Visa.

The 23-year-old attacker arrives in Foxborough following a decorated collegiate career, most recently at the University of Michigan, where he played under current Revolution Assistant Coach Sean Hughes.

A Proven Collegiate Threat

Sasaki’s transition to the professional ranks comes after a standout 2025 season with the Wolverines. As a graduate student, he led Michigan with 39 shot attempts, tallying three goals and two assists across 15 matches. His performances earned him All-Big Ten Second Team and United Soccer Coaches All-North Region Team honors.

Before his time in Ann Arbor, the Kawasaki native spent four productive seasons at the University of the Cumberlands (2021–2024). His tenure there was marked by both offensive production and academic excellence:

  • Stats: 12 goals and 25 assists over 69 matches.

  • Accolades: Mid-South Conference First Team All-Conference, MSC Academic All-Conference, and Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete.

Early Professional Glimpses

Sasaki is no stranger to high-stakes competition in the United States. In 2024, he suited up for the Lubbock Matadors SC in USL League Two. He made an immediate impact in the U.S. Open Cup, recording two goals and an assist in just three starts, proving his ability to perform against professional-level opposition.

Looking Ahead: Revolution II Schedule

Sasaki joins a Revolution II side looking to climb the Eastern Conference standings. While the club awaits the finalization of his visa, the team is preparing for a high-profile home clash.
