Hoover Vestavia Soccer (HVS) has announced the addition of internationally respected coach Mike Keeney to its leadership team, strengthening the club’s MLS NEXT pathway and commitment to elite player development in Alabama.

Keeney brings more than 30 years of experience at the highest levels of the game. Most recently, he served as Executive Director and MLS NEXT Director at the historic Clearwater Chargers Soccer Club in Florida. His appointment marks a return to familiar ground, as he previously served as Director of Coaching for Hoover Soccer Club and as an Assistant Coach at UAB nearly two decades ago.

In 2008, Keeney moved abroad to coach professionally in Finland, beginning a 13-year career in European professional football. His résumé includes experience in the UEFA Europa League and extensive work with both senior and youth national team programs in the United States and internationally. Keeney currently serves on staff with the U.S. U16 National Team and holds the prestigious UEFA Pro License — the highest coaching certification in the world.

Throughout his career, Keeney has built a reputation for bridging the gap between youth development and the professional game.

International Tactical Experience: Managed teams in UEFA Europa League competition against top European clubs.

National Team Impact: Worked with elite athletes within U.S. and international youth national team systems; currently serves on the U.S. U16 National Team staff.

Coaching Education Leadership: Instructor for the U.S. Soccer ‘A’ Coaching Course, helping develop methodologies used by top coaches across the country.
