TMichigan HS Boys Soccer Rankings: Week-over-Week Movers to Watch (Sept. 14–15)
By NSN Staff
With league play in full swing, this week’s rankings across all four divisions feature a mix of steady leaders and fast risers with unbeaten (or near-perfect) resumes. Based on the lists coaches sent to NSN, here are the biggest movement storylines and the teams most likely to climb—or slip—when the next poll drops.
Note: You shared only this week’s tables; exact “up/down X spots” deltas aren’t available. The recap below highlights clear trend teams—programs whose records and placement suggest a rise, stabilization, or pressure point compared with typical form. If you want precise arrows, send last week’s lists and I’ll add a side-by-side delta in minutes.
Division 1: Portage Central sets the pace; Hartland’s unbeaten run applies pressure
Steady at the top: Portage Central (11-0-2) headlines the pack, with Ann Arbor Huron (9-0-1) and Clarkston (9-1-0) anchoring a firm top three. That trio looks every bit like regional No. 1 seeds in waiting.
Trend up: Hartland (13-0-1) has the state’s loudest unbeaten drum. Results like that typically buy upward mobility, even near the top five.
Solidifying resumes: Traverse City West (10-1-2) and Byron Center (10-2-1) carry double-digit win totals—profiles that usually nudge programs a line or two higher week-to-week.
On the bubble (dangerous HMs): Saginaw Heritage (12-1-0) and Livonia Stevenson (9-1-0) look poised to re-enter or jump within the 15 if form holds.
D1 Top 5 this week: Portage Central; Ann Arbor Huron; Clarkston; Okemos (8-1-1); Hartland.
Division 2: Unity Christian vs. Forest Hills Central—an unbeaten arms race
Co-headliners: Hudsonville Unity Christian (7-0-2) keeps the No. 1 line, but Forest Hills Central (12-0-2) has the volume of wins to argue for No. 1 votes. Expect a photo-finish at the top if both stay clean.
Climbing profiles: New Boston Huron (10-1-1) and Warren DeLaSalle (10-3-0) read like steady risers, while Cranbrook Kingswood (7-1-0) continues to round into shape.
Watch list: Edwardsburg (8-1-0) and Allendale (8-2-0) have records that typically squeeze programs upward in the 8–12 range.
HMs set to pounce: Hamilton (8-2-1) and Melvindale (7-2-1) carry “next-in” resumes.
D2 Top 5 this week: Unity Christian; Forest Hills Central; New Boston Huron; Warren DeLaSalle; Cranbrook Kingswood.
Division 3: Country Day leads; parity defines the mid-table
Top stays blue-blood: Detroit Country Day (11-1-1), Pontiac Notre Dame Prep (6-1-4), and Flint Powers Catholic (9-2-2) headline a familiar top three.
Momentum teams: Elk Rapids (8-2-3) and Ann Arbor Greenhills (5-2-1) both own quality wins and few blemishes—classic ingredients for a one-to-three-line nudge.
Middle churn coming: The 7–13 band is tight: Swan Valley (6-2-1) through GR Catholic Central (4-2-2) are separated by thin margins; any single result could reshuffle that group.
HMs with cases: Ovid-Elsie (10-1-0) and Fennville (6-2-2) look most ready to break in.
D3 Top 5 this week: Country Day; Notre Dame Prep; Flint Powers; Elk Rapids; Greenhills.
Division 4: Liggett holds No. 1, but the chasers are stacking wins
Leader unchanged feel: Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett (7-0-0) remains perfect—typically enough to “hold” the top line.
Chasing pack: Plymouth Christian (8-1-2) and Grandville Calvin Christian (9-2-2) keep pressure on, while Lansing Christian (9-2-0) stays within striking distance.
Quality climbers: Royal Oak Shrine (10-1-0) looks like a riser on sheer volume of wins; Roeper (8-1-0) fits the same profile just outside the top 10.
HMs to monitor: Clinton (10-0-1) and Maple City Glen Lake (8-2-1) have top-15 résumés on paper; another win or two could push them in.
D4 Top 5 this week: Liggett; Plymouth Christian; North Muskegon (5-0-3); Calvin Christian; Lansing Christian.
Five statewide takeaways
Unbeatens drive the narrative. Portage Central, Hartland, Unity Christian, Forest Hills Central, Country Day, and Liggett all have the kind of records that usually protect or improve placement.
Depth in D3 is real. Spots 7–14 are separated by razor-thin margins; expect churn there every week.
D2’s top is a coin flip. If FHC keeps piling wins at its clip, voters will have a tough call between “best résumé” vs. “best team eye test.”
Dangerous HMs statewide. Clinton (D4), Ovid-Elsie (D3), Saginaw Heritage (D1) and Hamilton (D2) are all knocking loudly.
Seeding season. The next two weeks will crystallize league titles and district paths—prime territory for late jumps or costly slides.
