MICHIGAN GIRLS SOCCER: Milan cruises past Monroe Jefferson; Romeo, Port Huron Northern, L’Anse Creuse, New Boston Huron amongst other winners

MILAN, Mich. – State-ranked Milan continued its offensive prowess Monday evening.


The Division 3 eighth-ranked Big Reds moved to 7-2-2 overall with a 6-0 shutout of visiting Monroe Jefferson-Erice Mason Unified in Huron League play.


Milan clinched the No. 3 slot in the Huron League Tournament with a 5-2-0 record, as the top four teams in the league advance to the Huron League’s Top Tier Tournament while the bottom four will also play in a round-robin format. 


Ellie Budd and Molly Walline both scored two goals to lead Milan. Marissa Beck added a goal and an assist, Emma Budd also scored, Aubrey Higgins chipped in with two assists, and Elyse Matthews and Abbi Neuhart picked up single assists for Milan.


Neuhart, Kaily McDaniel and Emma Walline starred defensively while Livie Henry notched the clean sheet in goal for the Big Reds.


Milan owns a 32-5 scoring edge this season under coach Phillip Hayes and have recorded eight shutouts in 11 games. The only schools to score on the Big Reds are league rivals New Boston Huron, Grosse Ile and New Boston Huron. 


ROMEO 2, NEW BALTIMORE ANCHOR BAY 0: Clare Carmondy and Lydia Hill both scored goals as Division 1 15th-ranked Romeo gained the three points to lead the Macomb Area Conference-Red Division by three points. The Bulldogs have now outscored their opposition 19-8 with four shutouts and have 13 points in the conference race, one more than Eisenhower.


PORT HURON NORTHERN 1, CLAWSON 0: Julia Smith scored the lone goal as the Huskies prevailed in this Macomb Area Conference-Blue Division win over Clawson. Port Huron Northern moved into second place in the division with 13 points with a 4-2-1 league record and a 6-3-1 overall mark. The Huskies have outscored their opposition 33-19 this season with five shutouts.


HARRISON TOWNSHIP L’ANSE CREUSE 4, MADISON HEIGHTS LAMPHERE 0: Grace Haynes scored twice and L’Anse Cruise moved into sole possession of first place in the MAcomb Area Conference-Blue Division. L’Ansec Reuse (8-2-0, 6-1-0) now has 18 points in the standings. Emily Russell and Taryn Missig also scored for the Lancers.


NEW BOSTON HURON 4, GROSSE ILE 0: The chiefs grabbed sole possession of first place in the Huron League with this 4-0 shutout of visiting Grosse Ile, handing the Red Devils a rare 4-0 defeat in Huron League play. Avery Turk scored the first two goals and Malalya Singer notched the third goals as Huron led 3-0 in the first half. Miley Skamiera scored the fourth goal and also drew an assist in the win. Gabby Emelian and Rylie Cassette also had assists for New Boston Huron (9-1-1, 6-0-0), which has now won 16 straight league games over parts of two seasons. The Chiefs also own a 53-0 scoring edge with six shutouts and have outscored league foes by a 34-1 margin this season. Grosse Ile fell to 9-2-1 overall and 6-1-0 in league play. 


UTICA EISENHOWER 4, MACOMB L’ANSE CREUSE NORTH 0: Four different players scored goals and Eisenhower remained in the hunt for the Macomb Area Conference-Red Division title with this win on Monday. The Eagles (9-1-0, 4-1-0) sit in second place in the six-team division and have 12 points, one point behind Romeo half way through the league season.  Ellera Jakubowski, Gabby Riggio, Devyn Raymond and Lily Pantaleo each scored goals, while.  Riggio, Raymond, Devyn Gojcaj and Pantaleo picked up assists. Molly Mellott and Anna Polisei combined for the shutout.  


OTSEGO 9, STURGIS 0:  Otsego came out of the gates and scored six goals in the first 14 minutes before placing substitutes into the game and  cruising to a 9-0 victory over Sturgis. Olivia Witteveen and Peyton Dennany scored two goals each with Dennany also assisting on a pair of goals to pace the Bulldogs. Peyton Johnson had a goal and two assists, Grace Gerst had a goal and an assist and Maddie Ragen, Lexi Gross and Reagan Engbers also scored for Otsego (8-0-1, 4-0-0), which remained in a first place tie in the league along with defending champion Plainwell. Ruby Gerst also drew an assist and Zoe Alkire picked up the shutout in net for Otsego, which now has six clean sheets and has outscored the opposition 40-3 this season.


SALINE 5, ANN ARBOR HURON 1: Sienna Snyder scored two goals with an assist and Saline reached the win column once again to remain undefeated. Sadie Walsh, Lydia Zajchowski and Bettina Soares also scored for the Division 1 top-ranked Hornets.


STERLING HEIGHTS STEVENSON 2, UTICA 0: Stevenson improved to 16 points and opened up a four-point lead in the Macomb Area Conference-White Division with this win. Utica and Clinton Township Chippewa Valley sit in a second-place tie with 12 points apiece. Laila Martin scored the first goal and Presley Jones added her team-leading 11th goal of the season to cap the scoring for the Titans (7-2-1, 5-0-1). Diana Marku secured the shutout in goal.
