Men’s Top 25: Stanford Takes Over, Vermont Slides
Stanford is the new No. 1 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25, climbing three spots after a 4-0-0 start and collecting eight first-place votes. The Cardinal leapfrogged Marshall, which held steady at No. 2 following a 1-0-1 record.
Clemson and Indiana each moved into the top five, while NC State made one of the biggest early statements of the season, rising to No. 5 after opening 3-0-0.
The week’s sharpest decline came from Vermont. The Catamounts, who opened at No. 1, fell to ninth after being held to two draws. Pittsburgh also slipped out of the top five, sliding to No. 10.
Among the biggest movers were UNC Greensboro, up 11 places to No. 12, and Gardner-Webb, which surged to No. 13 from 20th. Both programs remain unbeaten.
The poll welcomed eight new teams, giving the Top 25 a new look. Saint Louis entered at No. 16, Utah Valley at No. 18, and Michigan at No. 25 after a 3-0-1 start. UMass (No. 20), Penn (No. 21), South Florida (T-22), George Mason (T-22), and Portland (No. 24) also joined the rankings.
