Mark Batman Joins Inside the Game
Inside the Game welcomes University of Toledo head women’s soccer coach Mark Batman as a special guest on the upcoming episode. Batman, who took over the Rockets program in December of 2022, has already made his mark on and off the pitch with a blend of resilience, tactical structure, and academic success.
In his second season at the helm, Batman led Toledo to a 6-7-5 record, including a 3-4-4 mark in MAC play. The Rockets earned results in seven of their final nine matches, highlighted by a signature 1-0 win over league leader Ohio on Oct. 17. Defensively, Toledo shined in 2024, tying a program record by conceding just 16 goals all season (0.89 per match). The team’s backline strength was recognized with multiple MAC honors, including Defensive Player of the Week awards for goalkeeper Agnes Stenlund and an All-Freshman Team selection for Gabby Anulare.
Off the field, Batman’s squads have excelled in the classroom. Four Rockets earned CSC Academic All-District honors and nine more were named to the Academic All-MAC Team in 2024. In his first season, Toledo produced 12 Academic All-MAC honorees and saw Madison Medalle become the first Rocket in a decade to claim OCSA All-Ohio second-team recognition.
Before Toledo, Batman built a legacy at Ohio Northern University, where he became the winningest coach in program history with a 253-91-40 record across 19 seasons. Under his leadership, the Polar Bears won eight OAC regular-season titles, five OAC Championships, and made the conference tournament every year from 2006–2022. His achievements earned him multiple coaching accolades, including three United Soccer Coaches Great Lakes Coach of the Year awards and five OAC Coach of the Year honors.
A Yellow Springs, Ohio native, Batman’s coaching roots trace back to his alma mater, Wilmington College, where he was a decorated player and two-time All-Region selection. He has also contributed at the national level, serving as a trainer with the U.S. Women’s National Team Training Center from 2013–18.
With more than two decades of experience and a proven track record of success, Batman brings a wealth of knowledge to Inside the Game. Fans can expect an in-depth conversation on building a defensive identity, developing student-athletes, and the future of Rockets soccer.
