LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL (March 9, 2026) —  The landscape of youth soccer saw a new tradition take flight recently as the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) hosted its first-ever ECNL Regional League Girls Leaders Cup. Held in conjunction with ECNL Florida, the tournament gathered the top 20 clubs from the ECNL Regional League based on their 2024-25 performance, alongside the top 12 individual teams per age group, to compete in a high-stakes, fast-paced format.

The competition featured mini-games of 50 minutes, forcing teams to find clinical finishing early. After a grueling schedule of group play and knockout rounds, four clubs rose above the field to claim the inaugural titles in their respective divisions.

"The Leaders Cup provides a unique platform to reward the consistent excellence we see across our Regional Leagues," said an ECNL official. "By bringing the top-performing clubs together in this format, we’ve created an environment that mimics the intensity of national finals while showcasing the depth of talent within the US Club Soccer pyramid."

BEACH FC AND UTAH SURF CLAIM DRAMATIC VICTORIES

In the U18/19 division, California’s Beach FC navigated a difficult path to the podium. After advancing through Group B with a win and two draws, Beach FC relied on composure under pressure, defeating FC Stars Blue in a quarterfinal penalty shootout before edging out So Cal Blues 1-0 in the semifinals. The final saw them match up against a surging Team Boca side. In a tightly contested defensive battle, Beach FC found the decisive goal to secure a 1-0 victory and the age group title.

The U17 bracket provided equal drama, culminating in a trophy for Utah Surf. The Surf survived a marathon 8-7 penalty shootout in the quarterfinals against Charlotte SA White and a shutout win over So Cal Blues in the semis. Their final opponent, Solar SC, reached the championship following a 5-4 "track meet" victory over Sunrise Surf. However, the final was a more disciplined affair, with Utah Surf’s backline holding firm to secure a 1-0 win over the Texas powerhouse.

LONESTAR SC AND SO CAL BLUES DOMINATE LOWER AGE GROUPS

Lonestar SC Red showcased defensive masterclass throughout the U16 tournament. The Austin-based club, which was recently promoted to the ECNL Girls national platform for the 2026-27 season, proved exactly why they belong in the top tier. Lonestar didn’t concede a single goal during the knockout stages, recording clean-sheet wins over Charlotte SA Blue and Coastal Rush. They capped off their perfect defensive run with a 1-0 win over instate rivals FC Dallas in the championship match.

In the U15 division, So Cal Blues left no doubt about their dominance. After sweeping Group B with a perfect 3-0 record, they maneuvered through a tight 1-0 semifinal win over Mississippi Rush United. The championship match against Slammers FC HB Køge turned into a clinical display of offensive firepower, as the Blues cruised to a 5-1 victory—the largest margin of any final in the tournament—to hoist the Leaders Cup trophy.

A NEW BENCHMARK FOR REGIONAL LEAGUE COMPETITION

The success of the inaugural Leaders Cup highlights the growing parity and competitive depth within the ECNL Regional League structure. By utilizing a "Champions League" style format that rewards previous regular-season success, the ECNL has created a mid-season destination event that carries significant weight for recruiting and club prestige.

As the ECNL Girls season moves into its final third, the momentum from Florida is expected to carry into the spring as these clubs pivot back to conference play. For the four champions, the Leaders Cup serves as a definitive statement of their status as the premier programs within the Regional League circuit.
