WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (Oct. 13, 2025) — Opening Day of the 2025 NISA Pro Cup was filled with energy and intensity, even if it wasn’t flawless. With eight clubs from across the country gathering at a single site, logistics were top of mind for many.

Across four matches, the opening day produced 14 goals, two red cards and one penalty shootout.

Northern Colorado Hailstorm 4, Modesto City FC 0

Bamadele Esan scored the first two goals of the tournament as Northern Colorado Hailstorm cruised to a 4-0 win in the opening match. Esan capitalized on a two- and then three-player advantage, while Travis Ward and Carlos Valenzuela each added goals before halftime.

Modesto City FC began the match with nine players. Left back Jose Mosqueda exited with an injury in the first half, and another player suffered a hamstring injury, forcing the team to abandon the match at halftime.

Los Angeles Force 4, Arkansas Wolves SC 2

The defending champion Los Angeles Force showed its quality early, with goals from Jose Cartegena, Joel Quist and Michael Salazar to build a 3-0 lead.

George Almeida scored for Arkansas Wolves in the 88th minute on a header from a corner, but the Force answered with a stoppage-time goal from Braun Ortega. Wolves’ Diasuke Otsuke pulled one back in the 90+4 minute to make it 4-2.

Salazar, a Belize international, assisted Quist’s goal in the 82nd minute and scored four minutes later.

The third match of the day was decided from the penalty spot. Jonathan Estrada converted a penalty kick in the 37th minute to give Capo FC the lead, but David Villanueva equalized in the 80th minute for Sin City FC to send the match to a shootout.

After a Sin City miss to open the kicks, Estrada buried his attempt in the top corner. Capo FC converted its first three shots, and goalkeeper Edwin Gutierrez made back-to-back saves to secure the win.

Sin City goalkeeper Miguel Duenas Jr. made several key saves in regulation to help his side force the shootout and earn a point.
