Jean-Léger’s late brace earns Oakland 2–2 draw vs. No. 25 Michigan
ROCHESTER, Mich. — No. 25 Michigan surrendered a two-goal lead late and settled for a 2-2 draw at Oakland on Friday night, as Golden Grizzlies freshman Christopher Jean-Léger scored twice in the closing minutes.
Kyle Pierson and Michael Ramirez each recorded their first collegiate goals to stake the Wolverines (3-0-2) to a 2-0 advantage after halftime. Pierson opened the scoring in the 56th minute, finishing a Nicholas Cassiday setup from the middle of the box. Less than 10 minutes later, Ramirez doubled the lead off a combination from Pierson and Nolan Miller.
Oakland (0-2-3) flipped the script down the stretch. Jean-Léger pulled one back in the 79th minute off a feed from Jack Klomparens, then leveled in the 88th on a tap-in assisted by Miller Knestrict. Michigan had a chance to restore a two-goal cushion in the 85th, but Grayson Elmquist’s penalty sailed high.
Michigan outshot Oakland 15-8 and controlled much of a scoreless first half, leading 6-3 in attempts before the break. Quin Rogers accounted for three of those first-half shots, and Isaiah Goldson made one save for the Wolverines in the opening 45.
Jean-Léger finished with two goals in his first multi-goal game, while Abdul Al-Rashed matched him with three shots for Oakland.
Up next, Michigan opens Big Ten play at No. 4 Indiana on Saturday, Sept. 13 (8 p.m., B1G+). Oakland visits Michigan State on Monday, Sept. 8 (7 p.m., BTN+).
