Seattle Sounders Defeat Inter Miami 3-0 to Win 2025 Leagues Cup
SEATTLE (Sept. 1, 2025) — The Seattle Sounders won the 2025 Leagues Cup on Sunday night with a convincing 3-0 victory over Inter Miami at Lumen Field, securing their place as the first Major League Soccer club to win all five major North American trophies.
Osaze De Rosario opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a header off an Alex Roldán cross. Roldán added a penalty goal in the 84th minute, and Paul Rothrock capped the performance with a late strike in the 89th to seal the result in front of a crowd of 69,314 — the largest in club history.
The win completed a historic set for the Sounders, who have now captured MLS Cup, U.S. Open Cup, Supporters’ Shield, Concacaf Champions Cup, and the Leagues Cup.
Roldán, who finished with a goal and two assists, was named Man of the Match.
Inter Miami, led by Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, failed to find a breakthrough despite several second-half chances. Messi, who was quiet for much of the match, ended the tournament with one goal and three assists.
Post-Match Chaos
The match’s conclusion was overshadowed by a chaotic incident after the final whistle. As players began exchanging handshakes, a confrontation broke out near midfield. Inter Miami forward Luis Suárez appeared to place Seattle midfielder Obed Vargas in a headlock. Video also showed Suárez stepping on and spitting at Seattle’s security director, Gene Ramirez.
Midfielder Sergio Busquets was seen throwing a punch, and defender Maxi Falcón was involved in a physical exchange during the melee. Players and staff from both sides spilled onto the field, and stadium security had to intervene.
Leagues Cup officials released a brief statement confirming the incident is under formal review. No disciplinary actions have been announced as of Monday morning.
Despite the chaotic ending, Seattle players celebrated with the trophy in front of their home supporters, marking a historic night for the club.
