The 2026 NSN Chattanooga Challenge officially got underway with Potros FC facing Red Top SC in the opening match of the preseason tournament created to bring competitive regional clubs together while supporting local charitable initiatives in the Chattanooga area.

The tournament, organized by the National Soccer Network, is designed to provide meaningful competition ahead of the season while also benefiting organizations such as Chattanooga Sports Ministries and City Fields. It also offers a first look at several emerging programs across the Southeast.

For Red Top SC, the match marked an early step in their new journey. The Cartersville based club has recently joined the UPSL Division 1 and is building a long term pathway centered on player development. Their partnership with Potros FC is intended to provide players with greater exposure, shared resources, and networking opportunities within the pro development ecosystem. The club is also preparing to launch a U6 through U10 academy in 2026.

Leading this new chapter is recently appointed head coach Kennet Fosuhene, who joined the club after his time with North Georgia United.

The match itself was a difficult opening test.

Potros began on the front foot, generating early chances and forcing Red Top into a defensive posture. Red Top initially managed to divert much of the pressure into wide areas, limiting direct threats to goal and protecting their goalkeeper well. An early injury to the Red Top left back briefly slowed the pace, but the pressure continued to build.

The breakthrough came around the half hour mark when Potros finished off a sustained attacking sequence. The attacker slipped past the goalkeeper and tapped the ball into an open net to open the scoring.

From there, the difference in chemistry and familiarity became increasingly clear. Potros’ quick one and two touch passing began to dictate the rhythm of the match. A long range strike extended the lead, and another technical passing move resulted in a third before halftime, sending Potros into the break ahead 3 to 0.

Red Top regrouped after the interval and managed to pull one back following a drop ball restart after an extended injury stoppage. The moment provided a brief spark, but Potros responded by adding two more goals to close out a 5 to 1 result.

After the match, Fosuhene remained focused on the broader development picture rather than the scoreline.

“This is a good group,” he said. “I have only had a week with them. The dedication, the effort, and the application to the tactics with a new coach coming in, I could not have asked for more.”

He also acknowledged the level of competition.

“We are going up against arguably the best team in Georgia. They went undefeated. It is a good gauge of where we are as a group, what we need to improve on, and what we did well as we move into the season.”

As he continues to settle into the role, Fosuhene emphasized that building trust and culture will be central to the team’s growth.

“My job is development,” he said. “That starts with building camaraderie, building good spirit, and creating a strong culture around the group.”
