KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Aug. 21, 2025) – United Soccer Coaches has unveiled the 2025 Hermann Trophy Watch List, featuring 29 NCAA Division I men’s soccer standouts as the new season kicks off.

The Hermann Trophy, presented annually by the Missouri Athletic Club, is the nation’s highest individual honor in college soccer, recognizing the National Player of the Year. Voting is conducted by Division I head coaches who are members of United Soccer Coaches.

The award honors the late Robert Hermann, a St. Louis businessman and soccer executive who founded the National Professional Soccer League, which later became the North American Soccer League. Hermann was inducted into the U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame in 2012.

2025 Hermann Trophy Watch List Highlights

Among this year’s selections are two returning semifinalists from 2024: Duke forward Ulfur Bjornsson and Pittsburgh defender Casper Svendby, both expected to be major contenders once again.

The watch list was compiled by the Division I Men’s All-America Council from a pool of returning All-Americans and First Team All-Region players.

Fifteen semifinalists will be named on Dec. 9, followed by a vote to determine three finalists. The winner will be announced on Jan. 9, 2026, at a ceremony at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
