NEW YORK — Major League Soccer announced on Tuesday that the MLS Disciplinary Committee has issued fines to Inter Miami CF forward Luis Suárez and D.C. United defender Matti Peltola for violations of the league's policy regarding simulation and embellishment.
The decisions stem from incidents during Matchday 10 on Saturday, April 25.
Luis Suárez (Inter Miami CF)
The league’s most high-profile fine was handed to Inter Miami star Luis Suárez. The Committee ruled that Suárez violated the league's policy in the 72nd minute of Miami's 1-1 draw against the New England Revolution at Nu Stadium.
The incident occurred during a high-leverage moment as the "Herons" were chasing an equalizer. While Miami eventually found a 76th-minute goal through Germán Berterame to split the points, the Committee’s review determined that Suárez’s actions warranted a financial penalty to protect the integrity of the game.
Matti Peltola (D.C. United)
D.C. United defender Matti Peltola was also cited for simulation during his side's dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Orlando City SC at Audi Field. The violation occurred in the 30th minute of the match.
Despite the early disciplinary blemish, Peltola played the full 90 minutes as D.C. United rallied with late goals from Louis Munteanu and Kye Rowles to secure all three points.
League Policy on Simulation
Under the 2026 MLS Competition Guidelines, the Disciplinary Committee has the authority to issue supplemental discipline—including fines and suspensions—for acts of simulation or embellishment that are deemed to have "impacted the integrity of the game."
Fines for simulation typically serve as a formal warning for a first offense, with escalating penalties for repeat behavior throughout the season.
Summary of Fines
Player | Club | Match | Minute | Violation |
Matti Peltola | D.C. United | vs. Orlando City | 30' | Simulation/Embellishment |
Luis Suárez | Inter Miami CF | vs. New England | 72' | Simulation/Embellishment |
Both players are expected to be available for their respective clubs' upcoming fixtures. Inter Miami will look to extend its unbeaten run as it hosts the New York Red Bulls this weekend, while D.C. United travels to face New York City FC at Citi Field. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
